POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING

Plot:

As kids three young boys Conner, Owen and Lawrence formed a rap group called The Style Boyz with aspirations of being famous. Once they started getting popular it became obvious that Conner (Samberg) was the most charismatic of the boys so he leaves the group to pursue a solo career which angered Lawrence (Schaffer) while Owen (Taccone) tagged along as Conner's DJ. After the success of his first solo album mainly because of music he liberated from the group written by Lawrence, the pressure is on him to follow up with another pop classic album but unfortunately his follow up fails and his huge popstar ego becomes bruised. It has taken him to hit rock bottom to realize that he was only as good when he surrounded himself with his real friends, the ones who were there from the beginning so that he can become a true popstar.

Reel Talk:

This movie is a parody poke at the popstar culture of today with the likes of Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift and so on. Let me just say I really enjoyed this film which had me rolling laughing to which I have to be honest I did not have high expectation going into the screening for it. But some of the elements that helped make this film work is that it was written by the three stars of the movie Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer who collectively are know as The Lonely Island  (a trio of comedy writers) and then directed by Taccone and Schaffer. So the chemistry was natural and not forced. It was almost as if the script was partly based on their relationship, but either way it works because it is a very funny film with a host of cameos. It is worth checking out.
