"LOVE & MERCY" NEW POSTER

Beach Boy and legendary songwriter Brian Wilson blew a lot of people’s minds—including his own—with the music he crafted for the band in the late ’60s. It is an era that is most definitely evoked in the new poster you can view above for this summer’s Brian Wilson bio-pic, Love & Mercy.
The poster was designed by artist and music-video director Kii Arens. “Creating the poster for Love & Mercy is a Holy Grail move for me,” Arens said in a statement. “I’ve been a huge fan of Brian and his music forever and the film is an absolute stunner. I wanted to tickle the memory banks of an endless summer with a touch of sorrowful madness in this design. The big blue wave worked perfectly to illustrate the struggles that exist in the genius mind of this world’s finest living legend.”
Love & Mercy is directed by Bill Pohlad and stars Paul Dano as the ’60s-era Wilson, while John Cusack portrays the troubled songsmith in middle age. The film will be released June 5.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Plot:

The super hero group The Avengers with Iron Man (Downey), Thor (Hemsworth), Hulk (Ruffalo), Captain America (Evans), Black Widow (Johansson) and Hawkeye (Renner) are sent into Sokovia to retrieve the the powerful scepter that was previously held by Loki but now being used by the Russians to breed experimental super humans. Soon as The Avengers take possession of the scepter Tony Starks realizing its power, enlisting the genius mind of Bruce Banner to harness the power of the scepter's gem to unleash Ultron a powerful droid originally designed for peaceful purposes but now reprogrammed to bring about total human annihilation. The Avengers must now figure out how to stop the powerful Ultron and his army of robots from destroying the world all while they each battle personal mental mind games that is ripping the team apart.

Reel Talk:

The wait is over and the highly anticipated sequel is here! The super crew of Downey, Hemisworth, Ruffalo, Evans, Johansson and Renner along with Avengers original 2012 director Joss Whedon are all back together to see if they can smash the box office again. Let's just say they tried. The movie is packed with plenty action and special effects but the story is what lacks the punch. There is a lot going on with the plot and the characters but it just seems to struggle for it all to come together. Still Marvel fans will enjoy this adrenaline filled super hero movie just off the action alone. An entertaining movie, with good visuals but the original film is still better. So don't disappoint the hype, go out and see Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader

UNFRIENDED

Plot:

On the eve of the anniversary for the death of Laura Barnes, a bully who when she was shamed and embarrassed by a viral video she commits suicide, the group of her supposed friends who shamed her while trying to engage in an online group chat, keep getting an anonymous pop up. It is soon revealed that the pop up is from their deceased friend and they must not unfriend or disconnect her or they will die. They must stay on the chat and engage in a lethal game of who is telling the truth or lying while the clock counts down on them.

Reel Talk:

Although this is a low budgeted suspenseful horror thriller it was somewhat interesting. During this age of cyber bullying, everything during this film takes place online via computer chats overlay-ed on the normal revenge seeking deceased stalker plot, it was still a little entertaining. Not too bloody and  not a lot of gore but just enough to get the idea of what is going on with the various murders. A great movie....No and not the worst, just a passable little suspense thriller if you are just in need of a thrill.

Starring: Heather Sossaman, Matthew Bohrer, Courtney Halverson, Shelley Hennig, Moses Jacob Storm, Will Peltz, Renee Olstead and Jacob Wysocki

TRUE STORY

Plot:

Michael Finkel (Hill) is a young talented and promising young writer for the New York Times who appeared to be on the fast track for the Pulitzer Prize. That was up until he fabricated a big story that put the newspaper in a compromising situation and also cost him his job. While unemployed and seeking work he gets a call notifying him that an accused family mass murderer Christian Lingo (Franco) was impersonating him when he was imprisoned. Wanting to meet the imposter inmate, Finkel visits him and is then handed the story of his career when Lingo tells him that he will grant him and only him the exclusive events to what happened the night his family was murdered.

Reel Talk:

True story..."TRUE STORY" was boring! I really was expecting a lot more out of this movie since it was the normally funny Jonah Hill's first dramatic role starring opposite the versatile actor James Franco, but they both should have just made a comedy and called it a day because although this was based on actual true events it was a snoozer. It was just flat throughout the entire movie, yes from beginning to the end. Save your money on this one and you will save yourself the disappointment.

Starring: James Franco, Felicity Jones, Jonah Hill and Ethan Suplee

EX MACHINA

Plot:

When Caleb (Gleeson) a young computer code programmer is selected to go do a rare interview with Nathan (Isaac) the recluse and eccentric owner of his company, you would have thought that he just won the lottery jackpot. Taken by a helicopter to a remote luxury haven where Nathan resides and also works , Caleb soon realizes that rather than him being randomly selected, he was handpicked so that he could be engaged in a test between him and an artificial intelligent robot named Ava (Vikander). The test is designed to see if the two can express genuine feelings for one another and how they will react to their feelings. But this experiment will eventually become a mental challenge for the two men with a fatal outcome.

Reel Talk:

This is "I ROBOT" on a sedative. The movie starts out really slow and even though the pace doesn't really pick up it becomes a lot more interesting. And the ending will definitely be an unexpected twist. Oscar Isaac as Nathan was really a stand out in this film as the arrogant, ego maniac computer genius. Not one to rush out to catch but a decent movie that is good for a matinee fee.

Starring: Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander and Sonoya Mizuno
Directed by: Alex Garland
Rated: R

WHILE WE'RE YOUNG

Plot:

Life for the middle aged childless couple Josh (Stiller) and Cornelia (Watts) is just a routinely boring cycle. This is up until they meet a carefree young couple in Jamie (Driver) and Darby (Seyfried) who live each day to the fullest. The two couples begin to hang out together giving the older couple a sudden renewed burst of youthful vigour. This is quite exciting for Josh an independent filmmaker to whom Jamie admires but soon Josh will question whether Jamie's admiration and loyalty is genuine or fake.

Reel Talk:

This movie should have been called "While We're Still Awake" because this was one boring movie that didn't make any sense at all and if you can stay awake that would be a miracle. I was very disappointed since I believed that it would be humorous with the comedic Ben Stiller starring in it, but it was neither funny nor dramatic, it was just like the movie that Stiller's character was trying to film...WHACK! It just amazes me how some movies can even get a budget to be made when you have so many better and worthwhile scripts that get dumped in the waste basket. Well this movie would be a waste of your time and money so please don't waste either.

EMPIRE VIP CAST PART - APRIL 17, 2015

FURIOUS 7

Plot:

No longer on the opposite side of the law, Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his family of speed bandits, Letty (Rodriguez), Brian (Walker), Mia (Brewster), Roman (Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris) have decided to just relax and focus on a mild living in the hoods of LA, but when Hobbs (Johnson) gets a visit from a British military spook Deckard Shaw (Statham) who is the brother of a villain captured from a previous caper and he gathers all the names of everyone that had something to do with his brother's arrest, their simple lifestyle will change. With the necessary information  Shaw sets out to hunt down the group one by one until they all come back together as a family (which is their strength) and using the streets of their city to ward off the violent and vicious attack of the vengeful mercenary and his friends.

Reel Talk:

The hype is over and it was worth the wait. The seventh installment to the Fast And Furious franchise was put on hold due to the untimely death of Brian Walker but then resumed with the assistance of Walker's two brothers in completing the 15% of the movie that required the star's likeness. With Vin Diesel and the rest of the all star cast intact and a host of cameos which kinda reminded me of The Expendables and how they stack on the cameos, this was an adrenaline fueled, fast paced ride that you definitely better buckle up for. As we have come to accept the action that is over the top it is also very entertaining and of course the acting is corny with a bunch of one liners, but again since the action being so furious you will pretty much just roll with it. A must see worth every buck with a wonderful tribute for Brian Walker's last ride at the end of the film. Continue to R,I.P. Brian Walker!

Starring: Vin Diesel, Brian Walker, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson

Her inspired performance on a ruptured Achilles at the world’s most prestigious gymnastics tournament clinched an unlikely bronze medal for the U.S. team and brought glory to her hometown of Amherst, Ohio. But in the years since that epic third place victory, Hope hasn’t done a whole lot with her life. Still living at home with her dad Stan (Gary Cole), she spends her days milking her minor celebrity for favors and endlessly reminiscing about her glory days.
When Hope is given the unexpected job of coaching Amherst’s newest gymnastics prodigy Maggie (Haley Lu Richardson), as she prepares to compete at the fast-approaching Toronto Games, the hard-edged and foul-mouthed Hope finds herself faced with a serious dilemma. Does she jeopardize her “hometown hero” status by devotedly training this rising star? Or does she attempt to sabotage the impressionable Maggie to ensure that she remains the one and only star in Amherst?
When Hope learns that her longtime nemesis, Lance Tucker (Sebastian Stan), is eyeing Maggie for a spot on his team, she realizes what’s at stake for Maggie and for Amherst. With her nervous and kindhearted childhood acquaintance Ben (Thomas Middleditch) in tow, her competitive streak kicks into high-gear as she sets out to show the world just what a bronze medalist is truly made of… and what she discovers about herself and the people who have stood by her for all these years is far more than she, or anyone, could have ever anticipated.
