TOWER HEIST

Plot:

Josh Kovacs (Stiller) is the manager for New York’s most luxurious and highly secured hi-rise apartment that is home to some of the Apple’s rich. He oversees a team of ragtag, but lovable employees from the doorman to the cleaning staff and all in between, but their futures soon become jeopardized when the penthouse resident Arthur Shaw (Alda), a millionaire financial investor, dupes the apartment employees of all their life savings in a Bernie Madoff type Ponzi scheme. When the FBI team assigned to the case headed by Special Agent Denham (Leoni) unable to locate the embezzled millions place Shaw on house arrest until his court date, Kovacs realizes that the money is somewhere within the penthouse apartment. With intentions of retrieving the money, Kovacs and a small team of his coworkers enlist the help of career criminal Slide (Murphy) who will train and assist them with the burglary, setting up for the most daring and dangerous experience of their lives.

Reel Talk:

Well in the final quarter of the year, a year filled with a bunch of lackluster films (one of the worst years ever for movies), this one will probably be the year’s closer with a bang. With an all star cast headed up by Stiller and Murphy who makes a long awaited comeback to a descent role, along with other veterans in Alda, Broderick, Leoni, Affleck, Pena and Gabourey Sidibe’s second film following her success with Precious. No one stood out more than the other, they all equally contributed good performances to make this a good film. During these days with talks of recessions and embezzlements abound, with everyone experiencing the financial crunch, this is an excellent feel good fairy tale movie. Get out and enjoy this film, it is one of this year’s few good movies out of a lot of terrible movies.
