Upon his time in detention class he unintentionally befriends Billy (Cyler), the school's nerd who advises Jason that he can jam his ankle alert so that it does not notify the authorities if he breaks curfew, if he would assist him with an after school project. The two teens later meet up and set out to an old mining plant where they will inadvertently meet Kimberly (Scott), Zack (Lin) and Trini (Becky G), all misunderstood misfits who just come to the mine for a getaway from there troubles. When Billy blows up a portion of the mine the group of youngsters find some multi colored stones to which they take and on the next morning when they wake they realize that they each have super powered strength and need to find out why. So they all meet back at the mine seeking answers and finds them when they stumble upon an unidentified vessel cared by a robot named Alpha 5 (Hader) and controlled by Zordon (Cranston), a giant face behind a steel plated wall. Zordon informs the teens that they have been chosen as his replacement team known as The Power Rangers who must prepare themselves to fight the evil Rita Repulsa (Banks) whose intentions is to find the stones she needs so that she can destroy the planet Earth.

Reel Talk:

OK...If you grew up watching The Power Rangers during the 90's and a die hard fan, you will love this film. Now I watched the series here and there so I was not a true fan, but I did have some type of expectations for the film, but I felt sort of disappointed. The film drags along with no real action until they finally morph and become The Power Rangers. RJ Cyler who plays Billy aka the Blue Ranger gets a little annoying as the goofy nerdy character. This film could have easily been good for a Sunday night movie special on television. Will say it will be best to catch it at a matinee.
