FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS CARNEGIE CONTEST
PARAMOUNT PICTURES IS GIVING ASPIRING SINGERS A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME
OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM AT THE WORLD-FAMOUS CARNEGIE HALL ON JULY 12th
ASPIRING SINGERS CAN ENTER ONLINE FOR THEIR “MY CARNEGIE MOMENT”
In celebration of the upcoming film “FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS,” the true story of the American socialite who followed her dreams of becoming a singer and performing at Carnegie Hall, Paramount Pictures is helping aspiring singers realize their dreams of performing on the prestigious New York City stage in their very own “My Carnegie Moment.”
Inspired by Jenkins, played in the film by Academy Award®-winner Meryl Streep, the special event will give singers from across the U.S. a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform a song of their choice at Carnegie Hall, which is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. Aspiring singers can enter for a chance at their “My Carnegie Moment” by visiting the “FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS” official movie page at http://www.florencefosterjenkinsfilm.com/ orwww.MyCarnegieMoment.com
The performances will take place at the Isaac Stern Auditorium / Ronald O. Perelman Stage on Tuesday, July 12, in advance of the film’s theatrical release on Friday, August 12.
Set in 1940s New York, “FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS,” from Paramount Pictures, Pathé and BBC Films, is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her “husband” and manager, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge. The film also stars Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson and Nina Arianda.
“FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS” is directed by Stephen Frears, written by Nicholas Martin, and produced by Michael Kuhn and Tracey Seaward.
For 125 years, New York City's Carnegie Hall has set the international standard for excellence in performance. Its walls have echoed with applause for the world's outstanding classical music artists, as they have for the greatest popular musicians and many prominent dancers, authors, social crusaders, and world figures who have appeared on its stages.
Today, the Hall presents an exciting range of performances each season on its three stages—the renowned Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, intimate Weill Recital Hall, and innovative Zankel Hall—including concert series curated by acclaimed artists and composers; citywide festivals featuring collaborations with leading New York City cultural institutions; orchestral performances, chamber music, new music concerts, and recitals; and the best in jazz, world, and popular music.
Complementing these performance activities, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute creates extensive music education and community programs that annually serve 600,000 people in the New York City area, nationally, and internationally, playing a central role in Carnegie Hall’s commitment to making great music accessible to as many people as possible.

"KEM" SHINES AT CHENE PARK
HOT FUN ON A HOT SUMMER NIGHT!
Last night was an amazingly beautiful day, not too hot and not too cool but just the right temperature for some enjoyable weather. And did I enjoy myself as I picked the perfect evening to make my first concert appearance of the year at the Chene Park Amphitheater that sits off the Detroit Riverfront. The concert for the evening was the dynamic soulful R&B artist Kem who performed to another almost sold out crowd due to the fact that he had already sold out the Friday evening show. Unlike the Friday show where he had the songstress Lalah Hathaway open for him, the show started off with an up and coming young artist artist named Cam who I had missed his set but I hear that he did well. Then he was followed up by the talented R&B singer Avery Sunshine who mellowed the crowd with her songs including the popular "Call My Name".
After a brief intermission giving the audience a chance to take advantage of any restroom runs, snacks or drink pit stops the main attraction took to the stage. Kem one of Detroit's own hometown heroes adorned in all white attire (white jeans, a white sleeveless vest, white sneakers and a white cap), some what casual attire but hey he was at home so why not get comfortable? But once he hit that stage his show was a fully charged burst of energy as he belted out hit after hit of the songs that people love and seem to can quote every line word for word. He even did a few tributes to some of his favorite artists like Earth, Wind and Fire as well as the purple one Prince and he had the crowd on their feet just about every song.
Kem certainly knows how to put on a great show, leaving the fans completely satisfied with his show. So yes I had an awesome evening enjoying some beautiful weather around some beautiful people, some wonderful music by Kem and a gorgeous view of the downtown / riverfront area at the fabulous outdoor amphitheater Chene Park. It doesn't get much better than that! I always strongly encourage any and all to make sure you check out the summer schedule of shows at the Chene Park website and be sure to come to some of the shows, trust me especially when the nights are like the one from last night you will definitely enjoy yourself.

CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE
Plot:
Calvin Joyner (Hart) is a hard working but yet unappreciated accountant who just lost out on a promotion to one of his successors and yet his wife Maggie (Nicolet) who was also his high school sweetheart wants him to attend their class reunion in a couple of days to which he refuses because back during his senior year, being a star athlete and student he was voted most likely to succeed only to feel that he has failed. While on Facebook at work he accepts a friend request from a Bob Stone (Johnson) who was formely a student he helped while being bullied by kids their senior year. They decide to meet for drinks and Calvin is amazed at how the once nerdy Bob has changed into this massive muscle hunk. But he soon realizes that he is caught in a deadly game of espionage when the CIA informs him that Bob is a rogue agent and they need his help to bring him in. So he must either help his old classmate or the government, but he must act fast because his marriage depends on his decision.
Reel Talk:
OK now, you have two of the biggest and hottest celebrities in the business in this film so I had some high expectations but I have to say I was a little disappointed. It was by no way a great movie, just an average movie at best with some much milder humor by the normally outlandish Hart. And even though Johnson has played some goofy roles this character did not quite fit this film at all and was only good for a few jokes. Still not a totally bad movie but a sustaining and entertaining film. Johnson and Hart fans will really enjoy their stars in this film but this film will be best if you catch it at the mainee.
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Amy Ryan, Danielle Nicolet and Aaron Paul
Directed by: Rawson Marshall Thurber
Rated: PG-13

plot:
Still unable to reap the rewards and recognition that normally befits heroes, the four teenage mutant ninja turtle brothers Michelangelo (Fisher), Donatello (Howard), Leonardo (Ploszek) and Raphael (Ritchson) continue to protect the streets of New York City while remaining in the shadows and scouring the sewers. When they get informed by their friend reporter April O'Neil (Fox) that en route to being transferred to another prison their former nemesis Shredder is scheduled to be set up for escape with the assistance of Dr. Baxter Stockman (Perry). As the team of crime fighting turtles set out to intervene to prevent the jail break they are unable to because Stockman was able to transport Shredder into another dimension where he meets the just as evil Krang (Garrett) who recruits him to help with his plot to take over planet Earth. With Shredder on the loose, Krang setting up for world domination and a vaccine available that can possibly change them from turtles to humans, the brothers have some serious issues before them that divides them as a team and distracting them from their mission of saving the people.
Reel Talk:
This follow up sequel to the 2014 film is sooooooo much better than the first. A better consistent flowing plot and much better action. I really enjoyed this film, granted that I was not that impressed with the first. Whatever changes the new director Dave Green made was for the major improvement for this franchise series for the mutant turtles. This is one goes into the category of one of this year's favorites of films for me. One thing I would say is an issue would be the 3D billing that was a waste other than that....A must see!!!
Starring: Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Stephen Amell, Brian Tee, Tyler Perry and Brad Garrett
Directed by: Dave Green
Rated: PG-13

POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING
Plot:
As kids three young boys Conner, Owen and Lawrence formed a rap group called The Style Boyz with aspirations of being famous. Once they started getting popular it became obvious that Conner (Samberg) was the most charismatic of the boys so he leaves the group to pursue a solo career which angered Lawrence (Schaffer) while Owen (Taccone) tagged along as Conner's DJ. After the success of his first solo album mainly because of music he liberated from the group written by Lawrence, the pressure is on him to follow up with another pop classic album but unfortunately his follow up fails and his huge popstar ego becomes bruised. It has taken him to hit rock bottom to realize that he was only as good when he surrounded himself with his real friends, the ones who were there from the beginning so that he can become a true popstar.
Reel Talk:
This movie is a parody poke at the popstar culture of today with the likes of Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift and so on. Let me just say I really enjoyed this film which had me rolling laughing to which I have to be honest I did not have high expectation going into the screening for it. But some of the elements that helped make this film work is that it was written by the three stars of the movie Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer who collectively are know as The Lonely Island (a trio of comedy writers) and then directed by Taccone and Schaffer. So the chemistry was natural and not forced. It was almost as if the script was partly based on their relationship, but either way it works because it is a very funny film with a host of cameos. It is worth checking out.
Starring: Andy Samberg,Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer, Sarah Silverman and Tim Meadows
