NO ESCAPE
Plot:
Having taken a job in Southeast Asia with a large water supply company, Jack Dwyer (Wilson) relocates his wife Annie (Bell) and two young daughters Lucy (Jerins) and Beeze (Geare) to their new Asian haven. Upon arriving Jack takes a walk so that he can become familiar with his new surroundings but it is not long that he witnesses murders and mayhem in the streets realizing that he and his family is now in the midst of a coup where the rebels are killing Americans and anyone else affiliated with the water company that is ruthlessly taking over their country. On the run and trying to keep himself and family alive they are aided by a mysterious tourist named Hammond (Bronson) who knows his way around the area well and is pretty skilled as a military mercenary also. But for the family it seems that at every turn there is danger leaving them to believe that there is no escape from the rebellious revolt.
Reel Talk:
After a long day with doctors appointments I was a bit fatigued so I figured a nap may have been in order for this one. But let me tell you that When this film takes off you are glued to the screen with its strong intense story and action. It will literally have you on the edge of your seat with shock knowing that somewhere in the world this may actually be happening now. The only downsize for me is how it displays the hardheadedness of people that will lead to the possibilities of jeopardizing your life and the life of others which will have you wanting to just yell at the screen. But overall this is a very good movie with great performances by Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Pierce Bronson each who are playing roles unlike what we are accustom to seeing them in. One thing for certain is that when you watch this film you will ask yourself just how far you will go to protect and keep your family safe? Yes this is worth cashing out, but be sure to get your snacks and hit the restroom before the movie starts because you will not want to leave when it does.

WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS
Plot:
Thanks to the DJ the nightlife in Los Angeles is always on point and for four guys who have been friends since they were kids they want to be a part of it. Cole (Efron), Mason (Weston), Ollie (Fernandez) and Squirrel (Shaffer) hussle and bussle, nickle and diming just to get by. But for Cole who is a DJ on the rise he wants more and is soon given that opportunity when he encounters a famous world renowned older DJ named James Reed (Bentley) who takes him under his wing to teach him. But what Cole did not count on is him falling for Jame's live in girlfriend, the young beautiful Sophie (Ratajkowski) which only complicates matters for them all. Not only does he have to deal with this but he also have his three buddies who are ragging him because he has distance himself from them. Does he continue to pursue being a major DJ or will he please his friends, these are the decisions that Cole is faced with.
Reel talk;
Having come up as a party promoter and working with some of the city's hottest DJs, I know that it is true that a promoter's job is to get people in the place but it is the DJ that controls the party. A DJ will make or break the function. So I did enjoy this movie because of the premise of Efron portraying a DJ on the party scene. This is not a great movie and surely not a bad one, but just entertaining enough with the music and party segments to keep you interested. The cast is good for screen appeal but not very engaging to hold you, again if not for the music....Zzzzzzzz!!! LOL... This is one that you will enjoy if you are into techno and house music but I would probably say catch it at a matinee.
Starring: Zac Efron, Wes Bentley, Emily Ratajkowski, Jonny Weston, Shiloh Fernandez, Alex Shaffer and Jon Bernthal

THE WHITE CARIBBEAN CRUISE PARTY
The white was tight for the The White Caribbean Cruise aboard the Detroit Princess boat that docks on the Detroit river. Despite some nasty rain and light thunder storms, people still got decked out in their white outfits to get down and party on the boat. The affair was hosted by Fun Times Society, Big Fellas Association, The Refinement Group and Mr. Marvin Eddins, it was also suppose to have actor Lance Gross for the celebrity guest host but due to an unexpected movie scheduling conflict he was unable to attend. But the promoters still wanted to provide a celebrity host, so they got actor Tyler Lepley who stars on the Tyler Perry's hit show "The Haves And Have Nots" to come through and let's just say the ladies were not disappointed. All levels of the boat were popping with Tyrone "The Godfather" Bradley and DJ Base on two of the floors and Mr. Lepley made his rounds to all the floors to accommodate the partying passengers. It went down on the water and your boy THE REEL HUSTLER was in the house to hold it down. This is my life, the life of THE REEL HUSTLER!

HITMAN: AGENT 47
Plot:
Agent 47 (Friend) a meticulous and precise hitman is sent on a mission to assassinate a young woman Katia (Ware) and her father who she is trying to locate but the two team up when they find out that a group known as The Organization is also seeking her father who designed Agent 47 with the desire of having him create an army of killing agents for them. Agent 47 and Katia must battle there way to get to the leader of the secret society with hopes of foiling his plan while being hunted by John Smith (Quinto) another relentless hitman whose mission is to also find Katia's father and eliminate them in the process.
Reel Talk:
In this video game adaption which is the sequel follow up to the 2007 movie "HITMAN" Rupert Friend is the new Agent 47 but Timothy Olyphant character from the original film was definitely missed. Now let me put it out there that I do not play video games but I do enjoy a good movie and well this was not a good movie for me. Although there is lots of action and fighting it was still just sort of stiff , maybe it was the terrible acting and the poor dialog. Zachary Quinto was probably the worst of them all, like he was reading his lines through out the entire film from a que card. You can save your money and wait to catch this one on DVD or even better cable when it will be free.

AMERICAN ULTRA
Plot:
In a small town in West Virginia, there is a couple Mike (Eisenberg) and Phoebe (Stewart) who are two weed heads that are madly in love with each other. Mike who feels like he has the perfect woman that completes his life is seeking the right moment so that he can propose to his true love. But soon strange things and strange people start appearing into Mike's life causing him to react completely out of his nerdy stoner character. Eventually he finds out that he is a highly trained undercover government agent that had been reprogrammed to just live as a nerd and Phoebe was assigned as his handler but for some reason a supervisor for the agency wants to terminate him with extreme prejudice leaving the pair to take on an army of assassinating mercenaries lead by a psycho named Laugher (Goggins), so they must use all their skills and training if they have any hope of surviving and making it to the altar to be wed.
Reel Talk:
This movie is like a roller coaster, it slowly climbs to a peak then "BAM" it takes off for one thrilling ride. Yes this movie starts off slow and then you are just glued to your seat with anticipation of what is going to happen next. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart who are no strangers to working together have an all star cast to help them in this action comedy. Even though some of the co-stars had cameos they made their parts count because they were some of the funniest scenes of the movie. A good entertaining movie that you will enjoy. EFFEN VODKA PARTY FEATURING 50 CENT
It was on and poppin (literally poppin) as tops were popped to pour Effen Vodka all night long at the Detroit nightclub "Chateau Detroit". The nightclub located in the downtown area was the host to an Effen Vodka promotional party featuring rapper and business mogul 50 CENT who has a stake in the company. Kicking off the party was the DJ who pumped up the jams and then there were some performances by a couple of local upcoming talent. There was also a man going through the venue in what seemed like an outfit from the Transformers movie and of course a host of beautiful people. And yes 50 CENT was in the mother Effen house, so you know I had to be in the place to capture the moments. Yep, this is my life, the life of THE REEL HUSTLER!!!

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
Plot:
During the mid 80's the streets of Compton, California was rough for young black teens as they were victims to the drug dealings, gang related crimes and police brutality on a routine basis. So five teens tired of the constant struggles of being black and hassled in the hood, decided to take to music so that they could voice what it was like growing up in the gritty city of Compton. Ice Cube (Jackson), Dr. Dre (Hawkins), Eazy E. (Mitchell), DJ Yella (Brown) and MC Ren (Hodge) formed the rap group N.W.A. which is an abbreviation for "Niggaz Wit Attitudes" that performed under the label Ruthless Records formed by drug money earned by Eazy E. Their hardcore rap style about being black in the hood caught the attention of longtime music manager Jerry Heller (Giamatti) who was able to get them a record deal with Priority Records and shooting them to superstar status. But it would not last forever as contract disputes and money issues would eventually lead to the breakup of the group causing them to take to different solo projects and leaving some bitter feelings among the boys who used to be good friends.
Reel Talk:
This is one great movie....flat out!!! Growing up and actually experiencing the impact that this group had in the rap genre and hearing the stories behind their demise, it was good to see the story as told by the actual group members because it was produced by Ice Cube and supported by Dr. Dre and the other members. For a movie that was filmed with a pretty much unknown cast with the exception of the versatile veteran actor Paul Giamatti, the performance were great, especially from Giamatti as Jerry Heller, O'Shea Jackson Jr. who plays his dad Ice Cube and Jason Mitchell as Eazy E. who really put it down. Director F. Gary Gray who has worked with Ice Cube before on the cult classic Boyz N The Hood and who is also a Compton native himself knew just how to capture the essence of the city as the backdrop for this great depiction for the group N.W.A. the originators of gangsta rap. I will not lie, this is one of the best movies that I have seen all year and one that I strongly recommend. Definitely go out and cash out to support this movie...you will not be disappointed, especially if you grew up as a fan listening to their music.
Starring: O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Neil Brown Jr., Aldis Hodge, Marlon Yates Jr., Paul Giamatti and R. Marcos Taylor

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Plot:
Napoleon Solo (Cavill) is a smooth, charismatic criminal who now works for the CIA and while on an assignment to rescue a beautiful young auto mechanic woman named Gaby (Vikander) he encounters the relentless KGB gent Illya Kuryakin (Hammer) who nearly foils his package extraction. Solo who prefers to work alone and Illya who has a hair triggered temper are both ordered by their superiors to reluctantly work together so that they will infiltrate an organization that's working to design a nuclear bomb. Reel Talk:
This film is an adaptation from the 1960's series of the same name and I use to watch it as a kid but honestly I can't remember anything about it to compare to the movie. But I will say this, the movie is the bomb. Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer make a good team as the pair of super undercover agents working for their respected countries and there will definitely be a sequel in the works for this franchise movie. Guy Ritchie did a good job directing the film, updating it from the 60's version and adding a modern flair. There is action, intrigue and comedy in this film which will keep you glued to the screen. If you like the Mission Impossible films you will truly enjoy this movie although it is not as intense as the "MI" series. This is one that you can cash out on and will not be disappointed with your choice.

THE ROOTS AND WALE AT CHENE PARK
Another beautiful evening in Detroit city, not too hot and not too cool but just right. So what was a good way to enjoy it other than a night at a concert at the outdoor Chene Park Amphitheater for The Roots and Wale. It wasn't congestive sold out event but it was a good decent crowd. I got there right when Maybach Music Group artist Wale was just taking the stage and while I am only acquainted with just a couple of his songs like Lotus Flower Bomb and Love Hate Thing, the women knew his songs well and were all into his performance. He had them on their feet rocking to his smooth and gruffy rap style. Then after a brief intermission The Roots took to the stage ready to do what they do best and that is rock the place. The Philadelphia formed group has been performing since 1987 and although their has been various group member changes the two most recognizable faces, lead vocalist Black Thought and drummer Questlove continue to keep The Roots alive. I have to keep it real that The Roots are one of my favorite groups out and every time I have seen them perform they have never disappointed me or the other fans in the audience. The band grooved the crowd with the combination of hip hop, jazz, neo soul and a little rock and roll with showcasing solos from the new members Cap'N Krk, Tuba Gooding Jr., Frank Knuckles and Mark Kelley, but one of the show stealing solo performances came from Sterling Heights, Michigan native Jeremy Ellis whose instrument of choice is the Maschine which is an electronic, techno beatbox machine. Ellis who has been touring with The Roots for 2 years now got discovered from his skyrocketing Youtube videos and said that he is having the time of his life and says to anyone that has aspirations to keep following your dreams because dreams do come true. We tried to catch up with the group but they had to rush to get on their flight so that they can make it to their weekly gig The Jimmy Fallon Late Night Show. It was a great show at a great outdoor Venue and as always I strongly suggest that when you can please take advantage of this beautiful amphitheater on the Detroit riverfront. With the venue still celebrating their 30 year anniversary there are still plenty of hot shows coming for the duration of this month and the next two. So go to the website listed below and check the listing and catch a show or two or as many as you can, you won't regret it! This is my life, the life of THE REEL HUSTLER!!!
