SELMA
Plot:
It's 1965 and after an unsatisfactory meeting with President Lyndon B. Johnson (Wilkinson) to approve equal rights voting for blacks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Oyelowo) along with members from the Civil Rights Movement arrange to have a peaceful walk with citizens of Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama. When the first walk which King did not attend was met with brutal physical resistance by the local sheriff under the orders of the bigoted Alabama governor George Wallace (Roth), Martin arranges for another march in which he will be there and vows to keep marching until the President approves the Voting Rights Act allowing Negros the opportunity to vote with equality. He continued to press on despite the racial opposition, the threats on his and the lives of his family and the pressure it was putting on him and his beautiful wife Coretta (Ejogo).
Reel Talk:
Movies like this one is like pulling a scab off a wound. Even though we know these films depict the terrible truth of historical but horrific events that we are aware of, it does not ease the pain in one's heart when you see it on the screen. But still this is an excellent movie with David Oyelowo doing an excellent job with his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In fact the entire all star cast did a great job portraying their respected characters. There will be Oscar nominations from this film. A must see movie and recommended for the family so that the kids will be educated to some of the events that took place involving the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. King.
