Fantastic Four | Official Teaser Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX

BLACK OR WHITE

Plot:

When an unfortunate fatal car accident takes the life of his wife, Elliot Anderson (Costner) must now take on the role of raising their bi-racial granddaughter Eloise (Estell) who they had been caring for since her mother had passed earlier. Raising a child is not only new to him but along with a drinking problem he is being pressured by the young girl's black grandmother Rowena Jeffers (Spencer) who feels the girl should be raised in an urban environment. With neither grand parent wanting to give way to the other they are soon engaged in a nasty courtroom battle to see who will gain full custody of the young Eloise.

Reel Talk:

This is by no means a great movie related to the racial views of raising a bi-racial child but it is very interesting and entertaining. The cast led by Oscar winners Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer, all put in good performances but actor Mpho Koaho was a scene stealer. The story was based off true life experiences of writer / director Mike Binder and Kevin Costner liked it so much that he even helped to finance the movie with his own money. This is a movie that is worthy of seeing, just not a must see.

Starring: Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Jillian Estell, Bill Burr, Mpho Koaho, Anthony Mackie and Andre Holland
Directed by: Mike Binder
Rated: PG-13

GOOGLE SPONSORS "SELMA" SCREENING FOR 500 STUDENTS

GOOGLE TO SPONSOR SCREENING OF ACADEMY AWARD®-NOMINATED “SELMA” FOR NEW YORK’S PATHWAYS IN TECHNOLOGY EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL
FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND EFFORT WILL ALLOW NEARLY 500 P-TECH STUDENTS TO SEE THE FILM
FOR FREE
SELMA FOR STUDENTS TICKETS IN BOSTON, DETROIT, NEW YORK AND NORTHERN
NEW JERSEY ARE SOLD OUT
HOLLYWOOD, CA (January 23, 2015) – Paramount Pictures today announced that Google will sponsor a screening of the Academy Award®-nominated and Golden Globe-winning film “SELMA” for students, teachers and administrators at Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) at BAM Rose Cinemas on Friday, January 23rd.

The sponsorship marks the first time since the inception of the nationwide Selma for Students program that a company has provided the funds for an entire school to see the film. Nearly 500 students and staff at the STEM high school in Brooklyn will experience the film due to the contributions of Google and the support of software company Infor and Paramount Pictures.

“As the Founding Principal of P-TECH and as a proud Morehouse College graduate, I am thrilled that our most famous alum, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is at the center of the film ‘Selma,’ and I commend P-TECH teacher Zakiyyah Ali for her efforts in helping to make the ‘Selma’ experience a reality,” said Rashid Ferrod Davis, Founding Principal (P-TECH). “We are grateful for the generosity of Google, Paramount Pictures and the others who are making it possible for our entire student population, faculty and staff to see ‘Selma.’ Our Brooklyn students are pioneering a movement and the collective experience of seeing the film will be powerful and empowering for all of us.”

“It is imperative for me to keep alive the stories about how African-Americans have dealt with struggle and resistance to injustice. It is equally important for my students to see that activism is selfless work. As our students live in an age of activism, ‘SELMA’ and the digital technology used to make the film provide them with a visual blueprint on how generational cooperation works for the good of all people. At one point in time, our pioneers could only record their histories through griots with limited reach. Today, technology allows these heroic stories to be told in ways in which the reach is nearly endless,” said P-TECH history teacher Zakiyyah Ali, whose desire to bring “SELMA” to her students led to the partnership with Google.

Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) is a new type of school (grades 9 through 14) that brings together the best elements of high school, college (New York City College of Technology) and the professional world (IBM). P-TECH enables students to begin their college and professional lives more quickly and with more support than the typical school-to-work pathway. Graduates of P-TECH have the opportunity to earn an associate in applied science degree and leave the school with the skills and knowledge they need in order to continue their studies or step seamlessly into competitive jobs in the Information Technology (IT) industry.

President Obama, Secretary Duncan and other dignitaries visited P-TECH in Fall 2013 in praise of its curriculum and model, which has been replicated. P-TECH offers college-level courses in math and science and offers students a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree in computer systems or electromechanical engineering.

The Selma for Students program has grown steadily since its launch in New York City on January 8th. To date, African-American business leaders in 32 locations across the U.S. have raised funds for free admission for middle and high school students to see “SELMA.” More than 300,000 students nationwide will experience the critically acclaimed film for free.

Due to the program’s popularity and the ongoing efforts of the organizers, student tickets in Boston, Detroit, New York and Northern New Jersey are sold out. Philadelphia expanded its program and added 3,000 more tickets to meet the overwhelming demand, while the business leaders in Northern New Jersey raised additional funds to send 1,000 students in Trenton to see the film.

Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, which is distributing “SELMA,” is coordinating the programs with participating theaters in the U.S. For a list of participating theaters in select cities offering free admission to students during this program and for information on group sales, visit www.SelmaMovie.com/studenttickets

MORTDECAI

Plot:

Broke and on the verge of being evicted from his mansion, the newly mustached Mortdecai (Depp), a conniving art dealer gets a chance to redeem himself and save his estate when he is asked to help his former college schoolmate Martland (McGregor) solve a case of an expensive stolen painting that is rumored to have bank codes written on it that leads to treasures stolen by the Nazis during the war. With the hunt on and criminals from all over the world on his heel Mortdecai along with his loyal man servant Jock (Bettany) are faced with various dangerous challenges while trying to retrieve the missing portrait. Feeling the need to help her husband Johanna (Paltrow) who has also long captivated the attraction to Martland gets in the mix to divert him from any unfaithful moments so that he can stay focused on the case.

Reel Talk:

From the trailer I thought this would be a cheesy knock off of the Austin Powers movie. But this actually was not a knock off but held it's own even though it was a little flat. Not saying that this was a bad movie just do not go in with high expectations. The jokes become tired after being used repeatedly and Johnny Depp just never seem to get comfortable in his role as the British con artist. This is one that you just really have to be a Depp fan otherwise you can just wait to check this out on DVD or even cable.

Starring: Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn and Jeff Goldblum

THE WEDDING RINGER

Plot:

With two weeks to go before his wedding to his beautiful bride to be Gretchen (Cuoco-Sweeting), Doug Harris (Gad) who is a workaholic nerd with no social life must find A best man to stand with him during the ceremony. With no options he is referred to Jimmy Callahan (Hart) of TBM Inc. (The Best Man Inc.) whose services are to be the best man for lonely guys who have no friends, which he provides in various packages. But in the case for Doug he must provide a service that has never been done before  which he calls "The Golden Tux Package", where not only will he be the best man but he will also provide the remaining group of groomsmen who turns out to be a group of mix matched misfits that only have a short time to come together as his friends for the wedding.

Reel Talk:

This is probably one of Kevin Hart's better movies. Normally he just outright takes over a movie even when he has a ton of other A list celebrities, but here he is basically the star but he balanced himself so that he didn't overshadow his co-stars. He even showed more range than just being an outrageous comedian than in his other films, he showed a more subdued side to his acting. The all star supporting cast was good with Josh Gad and even with the veteran actor , Ken Howard who was hilarious as the bride's father and  actresses Mimi Rogers as her mom and the cameo of Cloris Leachman as the grandmother, everyone lent a part in making this a funny and enjoyable movie. I recommend this movie for some good laughs, so get out and check it out.

MORE AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEADERS ACROSS AMERICA JOIN NEW YORK LEADERS IN RAISING FUNDS TO BRING “SELMA” TO STUDENTS FOR FREE
NEW CITIES BOSTON, NASHVILLE, NEW JERSEY, PHILADELPHIA, SAN FRANCISCO, SARASOTA, FL, AND WESTCHESTER ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THE NATIONWIDE EFFORT
NEW YORK CITY COMPLETELY SOLD OUT
HOLLYWOOD, CA (January 12, 2015) – In an unprecedented effort lead by a team of African-American business leaders in New York, organizations across the U.S. coordinated a massive national campaign to find African-American business leaders to underwrite free admission to the Golden Globe-nominated film “SELMA” for students around the country.

New cities Boston, Nashville, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sarasota, FL, and Westchester have come together to create funds that will allow students in these locations to see “SELMA” for free at participating theaters.

The efforts are inspired by the success of the program in New York City, in which 27 African-American business leaders created a fund for 27,000 of the city’s 7th, 8th and 9th grade students to see the film for free. Due to the overwhelming demand, the New York City effort sold out in the very first weekend and was expanded to 75,000 tickets.

“Our goal was to educate as many children as we could about the historical importance and contemporary relevance of the march in Selma,” said Bill Lewis, Co-Chairman of Investment Banking, Lazard. “Seeing so many business leaders in other cities join this spontaneous initiative is a wonderful outcome for the children and for our country.”

The students in these cities will show a student ID or report card at the box office of any participating theater for free admittance. The programs begin today, January 12th and run through January 19th (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) or while tickets last.

Business leaders in additional cities are currently organizing commitments and participation from community organizations. Those cities and leaders will be announced Wednesday, January 14th.

The local business leaders who are leading the efforts are:

Bennie Wiley, Principal, The Wiley Group and Flash Wiley, Counsel, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, in Boston (10,000 tickets)
“How inspiring to see so many members of the African-American community come together to expose our young people to this important chapter in history,” said Bennie Wiley and Flash Wiley. “We are delighted to join this extraordinary effort.”

Lawrence Jackson, Chairman, SourceMark, LLC, Former President, Dollar General, in Nashville (10,000 tickets)
“Director Ava DuVernay has created a film about an important piece of American history,” said Jackson. “Nashville is privileged to raise funds to help bring the film to as many students as possible.”

David R. Jones, President & CEO, CastleOak Securities, L.P., Anré Williams, President, Global Merchant Services, American Express, and Carla A. Harris, Vice Chairman, Morgan Stanley in Northern New Jersey (10,000 tickets)
“New Jersey is honored to join its friends in New York in bringing ‘SELMA’ to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to hear Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message,” said Jones. “We are grateful to the leaders in New York, whose generosity and vision lead to this movement.”

Leslie Brun, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, SARR Group, LLC, in Philadelphia (10,000 tickets)
“Philadelphia is happy to do its part in helping students experience the story of Dr. King’s journey in Alabama,” said Brun. “The challenges he faced there will still ring true today for many of our country’s youth.”

Charles Ward, Chief Development Officer, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco (10,000 tickets)
“We've managed to raise $100,000 in a relatively short period of time. That will send 10,000 kids to see the movie,” said Ward. “We do expect that there may be even greater demand. We'd like to cover as many admissions as possible.”

The Grain Family in Sarasota, FL (1,000 tickets)
“‘SELMA’ tells the story of Dr. King’s march so powerfully and so beautifully, that we are honored to contribute to such a worthwhile cause,” said the Grain Family.

Michael V. Littlejohn, Partner, IBM Global Business Services in Westchester
(6,000 tickets)
“We are so inspired by the program in New York City and are humbled to be able to contribute to its success,” said Littlejohn.
