WORLD WAR Z

Plot:

Gerry Lane (Pitt) is a retired UN investigator who just wants to spend his days with his wife and two daughters, but he is soon enticed into coming out of retirement by his old UN colleague Thierry (Mokoena) and the U.S. Army so that he can save the lives of his family and the world as a mysterious virus transforms it's infected victims into flesh eating zombies. He must go across the world in an attempt to find the cause and possible cure for this rabid outbreak all while he witness the devastating effects it is having on humanity.

Reel Talk:

Right before screening this movie some friends of mine said they had to attend Emergency Evacuation Meetings for the city, so when I saw this movie I was like "Oh Snap"! From the beginning to the end this movie is intense non-stop action. The zombies are off the chain, they are not the dragging the leg zombies of old but rather they are so fast that they make Usain Bolt seem as if he's walking. Brad Pitt delivers big in this horror thriller which is a little unconventional than his previous movie roles and being primarily the main star he literally carries the movie on his back. I consider this one of those wake up movies, opening the mind to possible conspiracy theories, especially after hearing that the city is having Emergency Evacuation Meetings. Stay Alert and go check out this movie!!!!

Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, Fana Mokoena and David Morse
Directed by: Marc Foster
Rated: PG-13

THE BLING RING

Plot:

Based on actual events and inspired by the Vanity Fair article "The Suspects Wore Louboutin", The Bling Ring tells the story of a group of teenagers led by the rebellious Rebecca (Chang) and the detached but peer influence Marc (Broussard) and how they move from being petty thieves to home invaders to the celebrities. Rebecca utilizes Marc's computer skills to find out when certain celebrities would be out of town and then he gets their address so that the group can go and enter the entertainer's home robbing them of their valuables. The group was so vain that they invaded Paris Hilton's home about 8 times.

Reel Talk:

I know this was based on actual events but this was some straight bull crap! I really don't know who were the real idiots throughout this ordeal, the suspects who repeatedly went to the celeb's homes, returning to some on several occasions and bringing along more friends or the victims who living it these lavish homes with with jewelry and home items worth millions but no home alarm systems and unlocked doors and windows or the key under the mat routine. Pure craziness!!! This is basically another teen movie to give delusional youths more corrupting ideas as if they don't have enough. This could have gone straight to TV.

Starring: Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Emma Watson, Claire Julien band Taissa Farmiga

Reel Talk:

Ok how many times will the Superman story be told? I mean I don't care how many times, he will not get anymore super. Even though this one with the talents of David S. Goyer as writer and Zack Snyder as director, it doesn't tell anything different than all the previous Superman movies. This one is just laden with special effects and action but at some point it becomes just too much. At some point after how they shredded thru New York with the fight scenes, you wonder what was there for Superman to save...LOL. This movie has a great cast, but they just couldn't save this over stuffed action FX superhero thriller. Die hard Superman fans will still enjoy it and die hard action junkies will enjoy it but I say don't be fooled by just the action or effects. Oh did I add that this was in 3D which really didn't matter because there was no real 3D effects in it. Oh well spend your money at your own risk for this one. The best thing I walked away from this movie is that Henry Cavill makes me want to get my out of shape butt in a gym. LOL

Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne

THIS IS THE END

Plot:

It's a beautiful evening in LA, actor Jay Baruchel is in town visiting his best friend actor Seth Rogen. At some point Seth wants to attend a big party at actor James Franco's house that will have in attendance some of the biggest names in Hollywood while Jay who is reluctant to go because he doesn't really get along well with any of the partying celebrities. They eventually attend the party and while stepping out to make a beer run they encounter strange events that leads Jay to believe the world is at the end. Upon returning back to Franco's house the two along with a few other celebs in the house must team up to possibly figure out how to survive what just might be the apocalypse.

Reel Talk:

This comedy satire about the end of the world may not be for the religiously sensitive person because they touch on a range of biblical aspects that some may not find funny. For the purpose of laughter this is an extremely funny movie that will have you rolling in your seat. The idea of the actors all portraying themselves, partying hard til the end was ingenious. From the beginning til up to the end which then the movie took a weird turn this movie was hilarious. Once again this may not be the flick for you if you are sensitive regarding religious views about the end of the world, but if you are in need of some unadulterated laughs this is a must see.

Starring: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Emma Watson

THE KINGS OF SUMMER

Plot:

In this coming of age tale about three teen boys, two Joe (Robinson) and Patrick (Basso) who have been friends most their life and Biaggio (Arias) who mysteriously just shows up, all fed up with the pressures applied by their parents set out to build a house in the middle of the woods and reside there living off the spoils of the land. This journey will soon become a test for the boy's pact as friends as well as their skills of survival.

Reel Talk:

With no big name stars to carry the weight of this movie , the three young actors have to share the honors, but they do a good enough job to make this a decent film. But Moises Arias as Biaggio, although small in stature really comes across big on the screen as he has some scene stealing moments. Once again this is just a decent movie, worth checking out to give support for the effort from the director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and the cast.

Starring: Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman and Erin Moriarty
Directed by: Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Rated: R

THE INTERNSHIP

Plot:

Billy McMahon (Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Wilson) are two career salesmen that while out on a sales pitch with a client they find out that the company they work for unknowingly to them has gone out of business. Out of work and with the bills piling up and with no plan B for any future job opportunities the two become desperate. While job searching on the Internet Billy comes up with the idea to apply as interns for the search engine giant Google with the promise of full time jobs if they beat out other intern candidates that apply. With no computer skills at all the two will be competing against some much younger and talented whiz kids who have been training for this moment their entire life. The two soon realize that it will take more than sales BS to get them through this challenge.

Reel Talk:

One word....WHACK!!! Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson team up again to try and revive some of the chemistry they had in Wedding Crashers but they just couldn't find it in this mess of a movie. If you're looking to get some good laughs, keep looking because this is only good for a few ha ha's. It's more of  a 119 minutes of pitch plugging for Google. I mean are we really suppose to believe that two forty something year old men with no computer skills can get a chance at jobs with Google, heck I will be testing that theory tomorrow myself then. This film you could pass on and wait til it gets formatted for television.

Starring: Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne, Aasif Mandvi and John Goodman
Directed by: Shawn Levy
Rated: PG-13

Cypher invites his son to come along with him on his next mission but while in flight their ship encounters a meteor storm that damages the vessel causing them to crash land on Earth which has not been inhabited with human life in more than 1,000 years due to the catastrophic effects caused by mankind. Being the only two survivors from the crash and with his dad badly injured, Kitai must set out on a journey across Earth's dangerous terrain to retrieve a beacon from the crafts broken off tail so that they may have a chance to be rescued, giving him his only shot to show his dad what he is made of.

Reel Talk:

It was 2006 that Will and his son Jaden starred together in The Pursuit Of Happyness and the chemistry was powerful. Well After Earth  keeps their chemistry strong as Jaden portrays a teen trying to prove himself to his dad played by Will. You can just feel the compatibility between them as if they are literally at home. This is a great movie with a great story which happens to be by Will Smith and this film is well worth checking out. I just hope this father/son team continue making films together because they have a good formula.

Starring: Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Sophia Okonedo and Zoe Kravitz
Directed by: M. Knight Shyamalan
Rated: PG-13

Reel Talk:

This cops and magician robbers crime thriller is that deal! There is not a point in the movie that you really ever know whats going on. Just when you think you got it here comes another twist that will still keep you guessing. This movie offers a good story/ plot and the cast, each member, puts in very credible performances that from beginning to the end this movie will keep you interested. A must see movie that will not leave you disappointed.
