THE ROOTS AND WALE AT CHENE PARK
Another beautiful evening in Detroit city, not too hot and not too cool but just right. So what was a good way to enjoy it other than a night at a concert at the outdoor Chene Park Amphitheater for The Roots and Wale. It wasn't congestive sold out event but it was a good decent crowd. I got there right when Maybach Music Group artist Wale was just taking the stage and while I am only acquainted with just a couple of his songs like Lotus Flower Bomb and Love Hate Thing, the women knew his songs well and were all into his performance. He had them on their feet rocking to his smooth and gruffy rap style. Then after a brief intermission The Roots took to the stage ready to do what they do best and that is rock the place. The Philadelphia formed group has been performing since 1987 and although their has been various group member changes the two most recognizable faces, lead vocalist Black Thought and drummer Questlove continue to keep The Roots alive. I have to keep it real that The Roots are one of my favorite groups out and every time I have seen them perform they have never disappointed me or the other fans in the audience. The band grooved the crowd with the combination of hip hop, jazz, neo soul and a little rock and roll with showcasing solos from the new members Cap'N Krk, Tuba Gooding Jr., Frank Knuckles and Mark Kelley, but one of the show stealing solo performances came from Sterling Heights, Michigan native Jeremy Ellis whose instrument of choice is the Maschine which is an electronic, techno beatbox machine. Ellis who has been touring with The Roots for 2 years now got discovered from his skyrocketing Youtube videos and said that he is having the time of his life and says to anyone that has aspirations to keep following your dreams because dreams do come true. We tried to catch up with the group but they had to rush to get on their flight so that they can make it to their weekly gig The Jimmy Fallon Late Night Show. It was a great show at a great outdoor Venue and as always I strongly suggest that when you can please take advantage of this beautiful amphitheater on the Detroit riverfront. With the venue still celebrating their 30 year anniversary there are still plenty of hot shows coming for the duration of this month and the next two. So go to the website listed below and check the listing and catch a show or two or as many as you can, you won't regret it! This is my life, the life of THE REEL HUSTLER!!!
