COMMON PERFORMS AT CHENE PARK

COMMON STANDS ALONE!
This past Friday, after my show the "Friday After Work Party In The Studio" with THE REEL HUSTLER I scurried on down to the Chene Park Amphitheater for what was suppose to have been one of the hottest shows of the summer. I arrived there and got my credentials, prepared my camera and readied myself for the show. But as I waited, there seem to be an unexplained delay and then the entire team of The Right Production (the venue's management team) took to the stage escorted by several police officers. It was then that they announced that Black Thought, the lead singer for The Roots would not be joining his band mates who were already in Detroit because of severe weather that cancelled his flight. Even after attempting to charter a private flight, it was also grounded. So now with the team going into damage control, they agreed to work it out, even offering a makeup show at a later date but only with The Roots. Some who were die hard Roots fans booed and even left but the ones that stayed waited and listened to house DJ, Steady Rock who did an extended set. Then there was a comedic set by stand up comedy artist Spanky Hayes that did not go over that well. Soon after rapper Common, who was set to open the show, took to the stage and man oh man, if you were one who left the amphitheater, you missed a one man wrecking crew as he ripped and shredded the stage to pieces. He took the crowd through a journey of his life via videos on the large over the stage screen as he performed songs that motivated him during those times. Common worked the stage from one end to the next and then even brought a female guest on stage and went into a freestyle referring to Detroit landmarks. He did have a surprise visit from rap legend AMG, who was in town getting ready for his performance the next day. AMG performed one of his classic hits before leaving the set. After it was over I left there saying The Roots who? LOL!!!

It was an excellent show, I was thoroughly satisfied. If you have not had the opportunity to experience the outdoor concert theater, you still have time. Go to www.cheneparkdetroit.com to check the schedule and order tickets. Hope to see you there.

WHO AM I HOMELESS BUT HUMAN CAMPAIGN

ANOTHER TYPICAL FRIDAY PT 2
After leaving the football camp I made my way do the NSO Neighborhood Community Center on 3rd Street in Detroit for the Who I Am Homeless But Human Campaign where about 500 homeless men, women and children were fed by former NBA players who were in town to play in Ice Cube's Big 3 basketball game. Some of the players on hand were Gary Payton, Charles Oakley, Baron Davis and Amare Stoudemire to name a few. Great job by NSO president and CEO Sheilah Clay.

LOMAS BROWN SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP

JUST ANOTHER TYPICAL FRIDAY PT 1
To start my Friday off I got it going by having breakfast with my friend Rufus Crenshaw , then from there we made our way to the Wisner Memorial Stadium in Pontiac, MI to check out Lomas Brown and his pals for The Lomas Brown Summer Football Camp for kids. It was a good way to start the day seeing the sweaty smiles on the kid's faces as they worked out on the gridiron with the former football players.
