RED CARPET PREMIER FOR "INTO A DARK MIND"
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
This past Sunday, while out hanging with my friends Curtis and Audrey Smith, THE REEL HUSTLER stopped in at the Emagine Royal Oak Theater for the red carpet premier for the screening of "INTO A DARK MIND". This film was produced and directed by Michigan native Harley Wallen who also stars in the film along with Tom Sizemore (who unfortunately was unable to make the premier), Dennis Haskins (who most of you will remember as the principal in SAVE BY THE BELL), and a host of local actors including Kris Reilly who does a good job as the lead character Justin. The suspense thriller, which was shot entirely in Michigan, takes you into the twisted and demented mind of Justin the son of the senator of Lake Orion, who murders without remorse until a young woman who was able to escape involves her ex convicted father who will not sit back and let his daughter be victimized. I had a good time getting it in on the red carpet interviewing Harley Wallen and the cast. If you can, take the opportunity and support this Michigan made film. I also got to shout out my big brother from another mother Henry "Madness" Mayers who came out and lent his video expertise at the last minute...Thanks bro!

DCYPHERED EXHIBIT AT THE DIA
Had a good time at the Detroit Institute of Art this weekend hanging with my friend Shawn P. Williams. I was among a small group of people that was invited to check out the DCYPHERED exhibit to which his picture is one that is featured along with others that contributed to the Detroit hip hop scene. While there we met up with another honoree, Kutty Mack who was there to check out the exhibit. If you haven't been there to view it, I encourage that you do. It is an awesome display.

ATLAS FOOD SHOW
While hanging out at the Atlas Food Show at the Eastern Market Shed 5, THE REEL HUSTLER stopped by the booth of Scott Owens of Scotty O Hotty Gourmet Hot Sauces and Fine Foods. We had a good time and shared some laughs at the expense of DJ Babe who was dared to try the sauce Reaper De Muerte which is made with the hottest pepper in the state. We had a good time and a brutha is stuffed from all the food samples. It was good meeting you Scott...keep it reel and keep it hot!

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
Plot:
When Eggsy (Egerton) is attacked by a former Kingsman reject, it is after he neutralizes the attacker or so he thought he did that there was a tracking device that was left behind. Soon after the headquarters of the Kingsman along with the location for most of their employees will be destroyed killing the occupants. Eggsy and Merlin (Strong) who were both not at the targeted sites will head to the United States to enlist the help of their sibling spy organization known as Statesman, so that they can collaborate to find the evil lair of Poppy (Moore), the mastermind behind the assault on the Kingsman. Her intent is too get them out the way so that she can distribute her poisonous drugs and then extort the president before she will administer the antidote to the infected drug users. Working with Merlin and Statesman team members Agent Whiskey (Pascal) and Ginger (Berry), Eggsy will also reunite Kingsman Harry Hart (Firth) who was save from a previous assault that left him presumed dead. They must hurry and find the villainess before the effects of the tainted drugs become fatal even for his love Princess Tilde (Alstrom).
Reel Talk:
I enjoyed this movie just about as much as the previous one. From the very beginning the action is in your face. So if the first one won you over, you will enjoy this film. One of the major differences in this one is that it is filled with more celebrities. You have Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal and Elton John...yes I said Elton John, just to name. Again this is a fun, action packed movie that action junkies will truly appreciate. Worth the cash to check out.
Starring: Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Hanna Alstrom, Julianne Moore, Edward Holcroft. Colin Firth, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal and Elton John
Directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Rated: R
I give it 4 corn dogs

AMERICAN ASSASSIN
Plot:
Mitch Rapp (O'Brien) is at the happiest moment in his life while on vacation at a tropical resort with his girlfriend Katrina (Vega) whom he has just proposed to while frolicking on the beach. While retrieving drinks to celebrate the start of their new journey together the beach area comes under attack by terrorist who are seeking to murder as many civilians they can and Katrina happens to become one of the casualties with Mitch being wounded. Upon healing he trains hard as an assassin with the intent to find the people responsible for killing his fiance. Seeing potential in Rapp, CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Lathan) recruits him to be trained for a Black Ops team led by war veteran Stan Hurley (Keaton). He will soon see action sooner than expected when some nuclear plutonium is stolen by terrorist to be developed as a bomb to start a new war. But what they were not aware of is that the main person behind this act of terrorism is a former Black Ops agent and trainee of Hurley who goes by the name Ghost (Kitsch). This will make things difficult for the CIA since Ghost knows their procedures and seems to always be one step ahead of them, but the young hot headed Rapp is determined to finish the mission at whatever cost.
Reel Talk:
From the very start this movie jolts you out your seat with action and does not let up until the end. Dylan O'Brien as the revenge oriented Mitch Rapp is almost like a dead on replica of Jason Bourne and Michael Keaton as his mentor Hurley is also on point. The entire cast does a good job in this action thriller that does not disappoint if you are an action junkie. Of course it is pretty predictable but it is also very entertaining and enjoyable. Definitely one to catch and cash out for the full admission.
Starring: Dylan O'Brien, Micheal Keaton, Sanaa Lathan, Taylor Kitsch, David Suchet, Scott Adkins, Shiva Negar and Charlotte Vega
Directed by: Michael Cuesta
Rated: R

IT
On a rainy day, while out playing with his paper sailboat, alone, little Georgie (Scott) is abducted by a mysterious and eerie clown. Unable to accept that his little brother is dead, Bill (Lieberher) and his friends Richie (Wolfhard), Eddie (Grazer), Stanley (Oleff), and new recruits Ben (Taylor), Mike (Jacobs) and Beverly (Lillis), all school outcasts that are constantly bullied and ridiculed, plan to search for Georgie and all the other children that have come up missing in the small town of Derry. Upon their findings, they conclude that it is the same clown that appears in their dreams and thoughts, feeding off of their fears. Realizing that the source of where the clown resides is an old vacant house that used to be the town's mill, the group of teens set out to face their fears so that they can put an end to the clown's reign of terror before he leaves and not be seen again until another twenty plus years to abduct more innocent frighten children. But to be successful, they must learn to work together because alone they will not stand a chance.
Reel Talk:
IT is a remake of the 1990's TV mini series that was an adaptation of a 1986 Stephen King's novel of the same name. Now I remember sneaking and watching the series which came on every Wednesday evening and remembering it being good but I can't remember much more than that because it has been awhile. But I can say that I remember that clown being creepy and this one is just as creepy....LOL! It is your typical horror movie with the standard stupidity, you know, the bad decisions, the run and fall...The standards. But if you liked the TV version, you will enjoy this one or if you didn't see the series and you're just a die hard horror fan you will enjoy this film. Now be forewarned that this is not the TV version, it is rated R, which means they stepped it up a notch. It is worth cashing out and getting you prepared for the sequel which set to follow. But if you are afraid of clowns, this may not be for you.
Starring: Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Jackson Robert Scott and Bill Skarsgard
Directed by: Andy Muschietti
Rated: R
I give it 3 and a half eaten corn dogs.

DETROIT PREMIER FOR "TRUE TO THE GAME"
TRUE TO THE GAME RED CARPET PREMIER
The red carpet was laid out at the Royal Oak, MI Emagine Theater for a night for the stars. It was for actresses Erica Peeples and Vivica A. Fox who were in town to promote the new film True To The Game, a movie adaptation from the New York Times Best Selling author Teri Woods' novel of the same title. This was a homecoming for Erica Peeples, the actress, poet and dancer who was born and raised in Mount Clemens, Mi. It was there that she started acting with the Mosaic theater group and then later became a graduate of Julliard School. She has starred in several plays and a few television series and now her first lead role in the film True To The Game which she plays Gena, the love interest to Quadir portrayed by Columbus Short. The story is based on Quadir who is a big time drug dealer who wants to retire but falls in love with Gena who really had no desire to date anyone associated with the drug game. The two eventually start dating but with him trying to exit the street life, but it will not be easy for him as other thugs make a drastic and deadly attempt to take his crown as king of the street. The depiction of the game is raw and gritty, with graphic violence. That is the life of a hustler of the streets out to make that dollar peddling dope. Also starring in the movie that is rated R is Vivica A. Fox, Nafessa Williams, Starletta DuPois, Andra Fuller, Stanley Atwater, Draya Michele, Jennifer Freeman, Malcolm David Kelley and the late Nelsan Ellis. The red carpet premier which had two sold out theaters launched the opening this Friday for the movie to limited theaters, so if you attend the theater to see the movie please make sure that you check your ticket stub to make sure that it is for True To The Game.
It was a good time hanging at the premier, then tracking out to Mount Clemens to the after party at the Emerald Theater where Erica was given an award from the mayor of the city. Then she and Vivica were entertained by acts Revnee, Jessica Betts and Erica's brother Anton Peeples, with comedienne and radio personality CoCo serving as host for the event. The party was filled with Erica's family and friends who came out to congratulate her on a job well done for her first starring role. Now you know your manz was on hand to freeze frame some moments.

RETURN OF THE LEGENDS VOL. XIV AT CHENE PARK
AIN'T NOTHING LIKE HIP HOP MUSIC!
Well it has come to the end of the line for summer shows at the outdoor riverfront amphitheater Chene Park that sits along the Detroit river banks. They have had a good season for concerts and the weather has been pretty good for their shows. So to close out the season the venue held their traditional trademark show "Return Of the legends Vol XIV" (concerts that pay homage to the pioneers of hip hop). This show was the Juice Crew Reunion which featured Masta Ace, MC Shan, Craig G, Marley Marl, Grandmaster Caz, the real Roxanne Shante, Kool G Rap, Biz Markie, Kool Moe Dee and Big Daddy Kane. It was a true hip hop throwback concert and these legends came and threw down as they performed their classics including "The Symphony". I truly enjoyed myself at the show as well as all the shows that I attended this summer at the Chene Park theater. I would like to thank the entire Chene Park staff along with D. Ericson & Associates Public Relations for the wonderful opportunity to be able to cover the shows they provided. Great shows indeed and I look forwarded to more great shows to come next summer. It has been reel!
