CHILLING AT SAVANNAH BLUE

GOOD PEOPLE = GOOD TIMES!
Still bending corners with my little brother from another mother after leaving the grand opening of his family's eatery, we hit up Savannah Blue located in downtown Detroit to chill and hang out with some good people, old faces as well as some new faces. It was a cool laid back, chilled vibe and it was all good! Good Times...Ain't we happy we got them?

SPLIT

Plot:

After a gathering at a restaurant among schoolmates, Claire (Richardson) and her good friend Marcia (Sula) are reluctantly urged by Casey's dad to offer their mysterious classmate Casey (Taylor-Joy) a ride home since she was left stranded. While loading up the car the father is knocked out and the three girls are abducted by a man (McAvoy) who they will soon find out has multiple personalities. During their captivity the teens realize that he has twenty three personalities, from different guys, a few women and a kid. When he is not watching over his captives, he visits with his psycho therapist Dr. Fletcher (Buckley) who tries to help him with suppressing the many characters that reside within him only to learn that there is yet one more to be revealed known only as The Beast. The three young ladies must use all their survival instincts so that they will not encounter this monster.

Reel Talk:

This thriller written and directed by M.Night Shyamalan about a kidnapper with multiple personalities had me watching it with multiple personalities also like, Drowsy, Sleepy, Confused and Unfazed. This movie is slow moving in most scenes which also leads to being confusing as to where the film is leading you. The cast is dull with the exception of James McAvoy who does a good job juggling the various personalities. This film like most of M. Night Shyamalan's movies builds you up to an unfulfilled ending. This is one you can wait to catch on cable and save your bucks.

Starring: James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Haley Lu Richardson, Jessica Sula, Sebastian Arcelus, Brad William Henke, Betty Buckley and Izzie Coffey
Directed by:M. Night Shyamalan
Rated: PG-13

I give it 2 and a half eaten corn dogs.

XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE

Plot:

While on a mission to recruit new XXX agents, Gibbons (Jackson) is decimated by a fallen satellite but upon investigation it is discovered that this was not an accident but rather an assassination by design. While filling in as interim boss in charge Jane Marke (Colette) heads up a meeting with the top brass of the Agency that is soon sabotaged by a small group of rebel XXX  agents led by Xiang (Yen) who retrieves the mechanism that controls the satellites being used to target and kill its intended victim. Jane who needs all the help she can get to regain the device, seeks to enlist the services of Xander Cage (Diesel) who has not been active in some years. After some strong convincing by Jane he along with a special elite task group take on the assignment of going up against Xiang and his team of rogue agents while they are both trying to keep the device out of the hands of the real terrorist who wants it to control the world.

Reel Talk:

Guess whose back after 15 years of missing in action as Xander Cage? Yep it is Vin Diesel, he is back in the saddle as the ultra cool but corny talking super spy. Also back is the over the top, unrealistic action packed stunts but that is what makes this movie work and this time there are others along with Diesel to share in the fun. They not only share in the action but also the corny dialog as well. As a treat you will even get a cameo of Ice Cube returning as the character Darius Stone from the second installment to the XXX series. This movie is loaded with action and lots of fun, so I say it is worth the bang for the buck.

Starring: Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Kris Wu, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Rory McCann, Toni Collette,

Samuel L. Jackson and Ice Cube
Directed by: D.J. Caruso
Rated: PG-13

I give it 3e corn dogs.

DETROIT GLAMOUR - AUTO SHOW AFTERGLOW

THE GLAMOROUS LIFE!
It was a cold Friday night in the city of Detroit but there was warm excitement as the anticipation was high for the evening's event The 2017 North American International Auto Show Charity Preview located downtown at the Cobo Center. But there was even greater anticipation for the premier afterglow party Detroit Glamour held at Campus Martius by socialite Dennis Archer Jr. who is the founder and CEO of Ignition Media Group who powered the event. This was the 10th year for the high profiled invite only party that brings out the city's elite and sponsored by the likes of BMW, Quicken Loans just to name a couple. THE REEL HUSTLER was on hand to capture this year's affair which showcased a few of the masterpiece cars designed by BMW, a fashion show and then to rock the turntables was acclaimed DJ D Nice and rocking the mic was Doug E. Fresh. Trust and believe this is one of the livest parties that Detroiters can experience.

HIDDEN FIGURES

Plot:

During the 60's the United states was in a crucial race with Russia to be the first to launch a man into space. Since the computer was not yet available but was being designed, NASA the United State's space program headed by Al Harrison (Costner)did not have mechanical means to calculate what they needed to project an astronaut into space so they used expert mathematicians who were called computers to help with a solution. After the Russians beat the Americans by sending one of their astronauts into space first, Al still refused to be out done so he selects an African American mathematician name Katherine G. Johnson (Henson) to assist on his team and with the help from her co-working friends Dorothy Vaughan (Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Monae) they work to overcome the racial dissension from their Caucasian counterparts so they can focus on developing an outline to send the first astronaut into a full complete orbit around the Earth several times and also calculate for him a safe return to Earth.

Reel Talk:

Welcome to 2017 and to kick it off with a bang the movie Hidden Figures explodes! This movie is one heck of a movie with some superb acting from an excellent cast. Everyone from the lead to supporting actors contribute to what turns out to be a great film. I am personally a buff for historian films but especially ones that depict African Americans who made major accomplishments but growing up was deprived from the history books so most were never aware of them. This emotional drama is a great movie for the entire family. In fact it would be an awesome film to promote to students nationwide so that they can learn of the contribution these three beautiful women provided so that our NASA projects are where they are today. Definitely a must see, so go in them pockets and head to the theaters! Good way to start off the year.

Starring: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons and Mahershala Ali
Directed by: Theodre Melfi
Rated: PG

I give it 5 corn dogs.
